Big Brains For Rent

Systems and Technologies

Big Brains For Rent principles Philip Hodgetts and Gregory Clarke PhD have been pioneers in the use of RSS technology to drive distribution of digital audio and video content.

Systems and Development clients

Big Brains For Rent created the technology required for the Intellicaster automated podcasting tool for Intelligent Assistance.

In mid 2006 the company was hired to develop the global "back-end" for eTV on Demand's push into IPTV. This work involved designing the network architecture to deliver encoded content to within the Telco partner systems; interface with those partner systems for billing and customer verification; entering and managing metadata and filtering metadata to build custom Playlists for each Telco's clients. This system received by media and metadata from the central eTV on Demand operation and from each of the Telco partners.

Basic design work was complete when eTV on Demand ran out of funding and closed before implementation.

In addition, Big Brains For Rent has consulted with Washington-based Rhed Pixel on development for alternate uses of the RSS technology, including the design of a "reverse podcast" delivery for the (ultimate client) CIA where the same technology would deliver specific content to appropriate people based on how long they had been subscribed (instead of most recent content to all).

For Intelligent Assistance, Big Brains For Rent developed the Pro Apps Hub software and article index, as well as the content for a range of highly regarded, just-in-time knowledge delivery products for Apple's Final Cut Studio and Boris' Titling and Effects applications.

Player Software

As part of the development work for eTV on Demand, Big Brains For Rent developed a cross-platform media player as a web application. (A small player file is downloaded and installed but on launch all operational code is retrieved from the Internet at every launch, making updating the player trivial for all users at the same time.)
